Customer Testimonials: Cookies road to recovery!
I adopted a 3-month-old kitten (Cookie) in July of 2022. In July of 2023 Cookie had a freak accident. She got her right leg caught in a slot of the inversion table and was hanging upside down crying in pain. Luckily, I was in the room and freed her. My vet did not X-ray her but gave her an injection of meloxicam, Onsior tablets and Daquin. Cookie could walk but limped and her tail was down.  A week later I took her to another vet, and they X-rayed her and found no fractures. They suspected nerve damage which could take 6 months to a year to heal. I began giving Cookie Hypericum perforate and Arnica Montana and by October she recovered completely from her issues. In April of 2024 she was showing signs of weakness in her back legs. A couple of days later she was sitting on the bed, and I went to pet her, and she bit me and then fell over. That was April 20 th . She was completely unable to use her hind legs. My first thought was this going to be permanent damage. I took her to the vet for X-rays and the Vet suspected FCE (Fibro cartilaginous embolism). An MRI was the only way to definitely diagnose FCE, but there is no treatment. Because she was unable to use her legs the vet gave her laxative Lactulose, Gabapentin for pain and Prednisolone for inflammation. FCE is basically a spinal stroke where a piece of cartilage breaks off and blocks the blood supply from the spine to the nerves controlling the muscles. Nerves regenerate, but slowly, approximately 1 inch per month. She could only lie on her side, so I changed her position throughout the day and carried her into different rooms. The Gabapentin made her unvocal and lethargic so the vet said I could stop. She communicated to me (most of the time) when she needed the litter box and started having BMs and peeing while lying on her side. I gave her homeopathic Arnica Montana and Hypericum 3 times a day, took her for a cold laser treatment, did red light therapy and physical therapy with range of motion. I brought her to her litter box for almost a month. In the beginning she barely drank any water and was not eating much. I took her to Sharon at  Top To Toes PEMF Therapy (Pulsed Electromagnetic field) hoping to reduce her healing time. She had eleven sessions between April 30 th and May 24 th . Since her mobility was limited, she tolerated the treatments well while on the mat. Cookie showed signs of strength returning to her back legs. She did not want to stay still on the mat, and we stopped session to see how she would respond. The day after her last session, I took her to her litter box, but she climbed out. I put her in the Kitchen and left the room. When I came back in, her Kibbles were gone, she had used the litter box by herself and walked all the way back to my bedroom and was hiding under the bed. By June 1 she was able to hop onto chairs and crawl through her tunnel! Cookie is now able to walk and run, wag her tail and is as sweet and adorable as ever!
